Child Life Program

When young children or teens are hospitalized, they may face difficult and potentially stressful events that can affect their ability to cope. Our certified child life specialists at The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai help patients cope with their hospitalization by providing developmentally appropriate interventions that reduce stress and normalize their experience, such as therapeutic play, procedural preparation and age-appropriate education.

The goals of the Child Life Program are to:

  • Encourage optimal development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences
  • Educate patients and families and reduce their stress and anxiety
  • Provide normal or home-like activities and experiences as needed for growth and development
  • Create opportunities for children to express their feelings and bolster their self-esteem and independence
  • Provide emotional support for families

The Child Life Program operates seven days a week including evenings and holidays.
